New Orleans Saints Reportedly Eyeing 2028 International NFL Game in Italy
A report indicates the New Orleans Saints could play another international NFL game as soon as 2028, with Italy, specifically Milan or Rome, being the most likely host locations.
New Orleans, LA, November 2, 2026 — A report suggests that the New Orleans Saints are being considered as a potential participant in an international National Football League (NFL) game as early as 2028. The report did not specify the exact source of this indication or provide further details regarding the team’s current engagement in discussions.
Should the Saints be selected to play abroad, Italy has emerged as the most probable host nation. Within Italy, the cities of Milan and Rome are identified as the primary candidates to host the potential matchup. Further details regarding the specific stadium, operational plans, or formal agreements were not made available in the report.
This potential international game would mark the Saints’ return to playing outside the United States. The NFL has been expanding its global presence, with regular-season games held in cities such as London, Munich, and Mexico City in recent years. These events aim to grow the league’s fan base internationally.
The timing of the potential game, slated for 2028, indicates a long-term planning horizon for such international fixtures. However, the report did not outline the process by which teams are selected for these games or the criteria that might favor the Saints for a 2028 contest.
The specific host city in Italy, whether Milan or Rome, also remains undetermined, pending further developments. The selection of a European location like Italy aligns with the NFL’s strategy to cultivate interest in markets with established, albeit growing, fan bases for American football.
No official confirmation or statement has been issued by the New Orleans Saints organization or the NFL regarding these plans. Consequently, the possibility of the Saints playing in Italy in 2028 is based on unconfirmed reports at this stage. Additional information regarding the potential game’s feasibility, scheduling, and venue is expected to be released as any formal arrangements progress.
