SeatGuru Founder Matt Daimler Joins AeroLOPA; iOS and Android Apps Launch with Architect-Drawn Aircraft Seat Maps
PR Newswire
LONDON, Sept. 1, 2026
With new funding and an expanded team, the architect-led aircraft-interior company adds Daimler to its founding team, accelerates its product cadence, and brings its data to mobile for the first time.
LONDON, Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — AeroLOPA, the architect-drawn aircraft seat-map company, today announced that SeatGuru founder Matt Daimler has joined the company as a co-founder, and is launching mobile apps for iOS and Android. AeroLOPA has also closed a new round of funding to support an expanded team and faster product shipping. The company’s website already logs 5 million page views per month and generates revenue by licensing its technology to partners including online travel agents, app developers, airlines, and aircraft manufacturers.
AeroLOPA started as a hobby for former Foster + Partners architect Gregor Milne, who created to-scale airline interior maps and published them online. He teamed up with Jonathan Shapiro, managing director at Triton Software Ltd., and together they formed AeroLOPA Ltd. The content quickly earned a following among aviation enthusiasts, and drew the attention of Daimler.
AeroLOPA’s seat maps are free for travelers at AeroLOPA.com and, beginning today, on iOS and Android — making AeroLOPA the only major seat-map service with native mobile apps since SeatGuru ended app development. The seat maps are the first of their kind — architectural drawings of real aircraft, not abstract schematics, and accurate to the fraction of an inch, revealing details no other site can offer: real legroom before a bulkhead; exact window alignment for every row; which exit doors bulge into the seat space; how far a seat is from a lavatory; which exits are nearest; and which accessible facilities are within reach.
“It’s been 25 years since I created SeatGuru, and seat maps haven’t really evolved since then,” said Daimler. “They are rough approximations, not a true picture of the experience. AeroLOPA’s standardized, to-scale maps are a massive step forward, and they couldn’t come at a better time for travelers who are paying more than ever for plane tickets and want to have the best possible experience.”
The company’s maps — already used by expert travel platforms like ExpertFlyer, Planepoints, and SlickTrip — unlock new possibilities for online travel agencies, app developers, aircraft and seat manufacturers, and commercial airline carriers worldwide. They enable smarter personalization, automation, and accessibility tools that eliminate one of air travel’s most persistent friction points.
“We’re contacted by new potential partners every day,” said Shapiro. “We’re finding varied opportunities to license our technology and data to app developers, governments, travel agents and travel industry companies, seat manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, and, of course, the airlines themselves.”
The aircraft seating market is estimated to be worth $10.10 billion in 2026 and projected to reach $14.01 billion by 2031, according to MarketsandMarkets. Demand is only accelerating: airlines will need more than 8 million new seats over the next decade, according to a study by Tronos Aviation Consultancy and AeroDynamic Advisory – a $52 billion business.
Because every seat is drawn to scale, AeroLOPA can do what no other seat map can: measure the experience. Instead of star ratings and marketing claims, every seat and cabin is scored from the aircraft’s actual geometry — legroom measured from the drawing, bed length, seat width, window alignment, direct aisle access. With this launch, those measurements power a new rating system: every cabin is ranked Top, Middle, or Bottom against every comparable cabin flying today, always within its own class of service, and always with the measurement behind it.
“Seat ratings have always been somebody’s opinion,” said Milne. “Ours are measurements. When we say one business class outranks another — or that one seat beats its neighbor — it’s because the drawings say so: the bed is longer, the seat is wider, the window actually lines up, the door doesn’t bulge into your footwell. A traveler shouldn’t have to trust a green rectangle; they can check our numbers with a tape measure.”
The AeroLOPA app brings the platform’s detailed seat maps to mobile, with exclusive features including route-based seat map searches across multiple carriers; Sunny Side (which shows which side of the aircraft the sun will light up on your specific flight, for sunset chasers and glare avoiders alike); stored seat maps for when you don’t have internet access; and push alerts for day-of-travel airplane changes. The app is available on the App Store and Google Play. After a 14-day free trial, a subscription costs $5/month or $29 a year.
AeroLOPA also introduced Super Schedule™, which compares every aircraft flying between two airports. For each route it shows what actually differs from flight to flight — Wi-Fi speed and availability, cabin layout, lavatories serving each cabin — and, for every class of service, the seat type, measured bed length and width, and where that cabin ranks among every comparable cabin AeroLOPA covers. Because airlines swap aircraft, Super Schedule also shows what has really flown each flight over the past 30 days, calls out the flights that most reliably get the promised plane, and lets travelers sort by those odds, putting the surest bets at the top of the list.
The same intelligence follows travelers past the booking. Enter a booked flight in the app or on the site, and AeroLOPA puts the cabin in context: where the booked seat ranks among everything flying that route that day — and when it’s simply the best one, it says so.
