Roy Everett Butler, a former Marine Corps aviator, retired Pan Am captain, flight‑training director, artist, and lifelong storyteller, has published his debut poetry collection, Age Is a Garden, at 93 years old. The book captures a lifetime of reflection, memory, companionship, and quiet gratitude, offering readers a rare perspective shaped by nearly a century of lived experience.

Born in 1932 and raised across from Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, Butler’s life carried him from Marine Corps aviation training in Pensacola to the skies over Korea, and later into a distinguished career with Pan Am as both a captain and system director of flight training. After decades devoted to aviation, leadership, and safety research, Butler turned to poetry in his nineties — discovering a new creative voice rooted in reflection and human connection.

Age Is a Garden blends themes of aging, family, memory, and the gentle presence of the four rescue cats who share his home. The collection has resonated with readers drawn to authenticity, elder wisdom, and the quiet courage of late‑life reinvention.
