Combining 4K-compatible imaging, advanced HDR capabilities, and enhanced low-light performance, the new camera modules are designed to deliver clear and reliable imaging across challenging lighting conditions.

At the heart of both camera modules is Sony IMX908 sensor with STARVIS 3™ Technology, a 1/2.8-type CMOS image sensor with approximately 8.45 megapixels and 4K compatibility. Featuring Sony’s newly developed 1.45 μm LOFIC pixel architecture, the sensor delivers up to 96 dB dynamic range with Clear HDR3, while providing enhanced sensitivity in low-light and near-infrared environments.

Advanced HDR with Sony LOFIC and Clear HDR3

The IMX908 introduces Sony’s LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) pixel architecture, which adds charge-storage capacity to the pixel’s Floating Diffusion (FD) region. This expands the amount of charge that can be stored before saturation, helping preserve image information in high-contrast scenes.

The sensor also incorporates Clear HDR3, which performs real-time HDR image compositing within the sensor and enables up to 96 dB dynamic range with single-shot-exposure HDR. By achieving high dynamic range with a single exposure, the IMX908 helps reduce motion-related artifacts associated with conventional multiple-exposure HDR approaches, supporting clearer imaging of moving subjects.

Beyond HDR, the IMX908 combines a back-illuminated structure and deep photodiode layer to enhance low-light sensitivity. Its pixel design also helps reduce resolution degradation in the near-infrared spectrum, enabling clearer details under IR illumination and supporting reliable imaging from daytime to nighttime environments.

LI-IMX908-MIPI-140H: Compact MIPI Connectivity

The LI-IMX908-MIPI-140H combines the Sony IMX908 sensor with a 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 interface, providing high-speed connectivity for compact embedded camera systems.

The module supports 3840 × 2160 output at up to 90 fps and 10-bit / 12-bit RAW output. It also features a 140° horizontal field of view and supports M12 lenses, providing flexibility for wide-angle imaging applications.
