ChillBase rebuilt OneState’s rendering from the ground up for the 1.3 Update STEP UP, bringing a console-grade open world to the phone.
NY, UNITED STATES, October 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Independent studio ChillBase is inviting players into LA 2040 — a playable vision of the city’s near future inside OneState, a mobile Social RolePlay. Up to 900 players share the city at once, taking on roles, forming gangs and factions, running businesses and activities, socializing and creating their own stories. LA 2040 arrived in OneState with Update 1.3 “Step Up” on October 1 and is available now as a free update on iOS and Android.
Inspired by real-world development plans and urban trends, LA2040 is a believable Los Angeles pushed into its next era: Downtown climbs higher and gets denser. Charging networks and modern transit reshape the streets. Electric cars run near-silent, delivery rovers work the sidewalks, and solar panels and digital signage turn up in the small details of daily life.
To make that future feel convincing on a phone, ChillBase has rebuilt OneState’s rendering technology from the ground up. The draw distance is three times what it was, at 1,500 metres, so the skyline reads as a skyline rather than fog. HDR and dynamic exposure mean pulling out of a parking garage into the afternoon sun now behaves the way your eyes do. Reflections are baked separately for every district, and car paint shaders were rewritten from scratch, so metallic flake catches streetlights the way it should. The ocean has real waves and foam. Roads carry sharper surface detail, and interiors have depth when you look through a window. Eighteen areas of the renderer were rebuilt in total.
“We hired local photographers and people who actually know Los Angeles, and rebuilt it block by block. The rule for LA2040 was simple: no flying cars, no holograms. Take the city that exists and push it forward until it still looks like somewhere you could go get a coffee,” says Matvei Lipatnikov, founder of ChillBase.
A single player in a curated scene is a solved problem on mobile. OneState runs this while up to 900 real people occupy the same city at the same time — driving, working, running businesses, talking, falling out with each other — with no scripted NPCs filling the streets. That is what ChillBase means by Social RolePlay, the genre the studio has spent the last several years defining on mobile: every character you meet on the street is another player rather than a script.
